Trick or Treat: A Frightfully Fun Halloween Card

There's something about a moonlit orange sky and a couple of wide-eyed kittens that just says Halloween to me, and that's exactly why I couldn't resist recreating this design after spotting it on the online samples page for the Frightfully Fun Suite Collection. It's spooky without being scary, cute without being cutesy, and it came together so quickly that I ended up making it twice just for the fun of it.

The Card Front

I started with a Basic Black cardstock card base, which gives the whole project that deep, moody Halloween backdrop right from the start. Over that went a panel of the Frightfully Fun Designer Series Paper in that gorgeous burnt-orange shade with bare, twisting tree branches silhouetted against a glowing full moon — instant atmosphere.

For the stars of the show, I die-cut two kittens from the Frightfully Fun Designer Series Paper using the coordinating Oh My Fright dies — one in cool gray, one a soft calico — and tucked a small tag, also die-cut from the DSP with the Oh My Fright dies, behind them for a little dimension and contrast.

The bats got their own moment, too. I stamped them onto Basic White cardstock with Basic Black Hybrid ink using the Oh My Fright stamp set, then die-cut them with the coordinating Oh My Fright dies so every wing edge was crisp. To make the scene feel like it had layers, I popped the kittens and two of the three bats up on Stampin' Dimensionals, letting them hover just off the page while one bat stays flat against the sky.

The sentiment — a simple, punchy "Trick or Treat" — is from the same Oh My Fright stamp set, stamped in Basic Black Hybrid ink on Basic White cardstock, trimmed down, and adhered with more Stampin' Dimensionals so it sits proud on the design.

For the finishing touch, I added a few little dots from the Adhesive-Backed Bats, Ghosts and Dots — just enough scattered across the sky to suggest stars without competing with the moon.

Inside the Card

The inside kept the same color story going. A layer of Pumpkin Pie cardstock is adhered right to the card base, topped with a panel of Basic White cardstock for the sentiment to live on.

Using the Oh My Fright stamp set again, I stamped "Happy Halloween" along with a little cloud of bats swooping across the panel, all in Basic Black Hybrid ink for nice, crisp lines against the white. A strip of the Frightfully Fun Designer Series Paper along the bottom edge ties the inside back to the front and keeps the pattern from feeling like an afterthought.

Final Thoughts

This one was a genuine joy to put together — the Frightfully Fun Suite does so much of the heavy lifting with its color palette and coordinating dies that the design almost assembles itself. The dimensional elements give it that little bit of playfulness, and those kittens are just too sweet to be spooky. If you're looking for a Halloween card that leans more "adorable" than "eerie," this is a fantastic one to have in your back pocket.
