Mortarboard Magic: A Class of 2026 Graduation Card

An elegant arrow-fold card featuring gold heat embossing, a vellum overlay, and the beloved retired Cap & Gown stamp set.

There is something genuinely satisfying about sending a handmade graduation card — especially when that card looks this polished. This Class of 2026 beauty combines a dramatic arrow-fold design with shimmering gold heat embossing, a soft vellum overlay, and the most gorgeous color pairing: deep Blackberry Bliss and warm gold. This card was inspired by a graduation card made by Tami White.

The foundation of this card is a classic A2-sized card base cut from Blackberry Bliss cardstock. That rich, wine-toned purple sets an immediately celebratory mood. A Gold Foil Sheet layer is adhered on top, creating a brilliant metallic frame, and Basic White cardstock sits over that — giving the gold just enough breathing room to glow around the edges.

The real showstopper is the arrow-fold flap: a large triangle of Blackberry Bliss that folds open to reveal the interior sentiment. The geometric drama of that pointed flap is what makes this card memorable before anyone has even read a single word.

Tucked behind the vellum on the front of the card is the Season of Elegance Designer Series Paper — a warm, gold foil with textured background that glows softly through the vellum overlay, giving the whole panel a dreamy, luminous quality. It transforms what could be a stark white surface into something rich and textured, while still letting the embossed elements read clearly.

Every stamped image on this card — from the "Class Of" sentiment to the diploma scroll — was heat embossed in gold powder. Stamping with VersaMark ink, dusting generously with gold embossing powder, and then hitting it with the heat tool gives you that raised, lustrous finish that simply cannot be replicated by any other technique. It photographs beautifully and feels extraordinary to the touch.

The large "2026" numerals were die-cut using the Alphabet À La Mode dies — a set that delivers beautifully clean, bold letters and numbers at an impressive scale. These were die-cut from a Gold Foil Sheet to match the rest of the card's elements perfectly and hold their own against the rest of the design. The oversized year makes an immediate statement.

Open the flap and the card reveals its heart: a clean Basic White panel stamped with "All of the hard work was worth it! Congratulations, Graduate!" — also from the Cap & Gown set, also heat embossed in gold. Paired with two small gold mortarboard motifs in the lower corners, the inside is every bit as intentional as the cover. It's the kind of sentiment that hits differently when it's presented this beautifully.

The Cap & Gown stamp set may be retired, but cards like this are a reminder of why it was so beloved. If you have it in your stash, now is absolutely the time to pull it out — and if you don't, keep an eye on the retired list and crafters destashing their collections. This one is worth hunting down.

Six Graduation Cards

Just a quick post today with a look at all six of the graduation cards.

They all turned out so beautiful. I sure hope the graduates liked them as much as I enjoyed making them.

Grad Hats Graduation Card Upgrade

I wasn't real happy how the Grad Hats graduation card turned out I felt it was missing something. My remedy was to add a larger graduation cap. To see the original card click here.

The graduation cap was made using the Tailored Tag and Story Label punches. The directions on how to make the cap were on Pinterest in a post by Charlet Mallett. I used gold tinsel trim for the tassel. The tassel is attached to the cap using a tiny gold brad. The cap was adhered onto the card front using Stampin' Dimensionals.

Gold Star Congratulations Graduation Card

This card was CASE'd from a card I saw on Pinterest that was made by Glenda Calkins. (CASE stands for Copy and Share Everything).

The card starts with a Basic White cardstock base, followed by a Crush Curry cardstock panel and then a Blackberry Bliss cardstock top panel.

The "Congratulations" sentiment is from the A Grand Kid stamp set and has been stamped onto the Blackberry Bliss front panel using VersaMark ink and then heat embossed with Gold Embossing Powder.

The stars and swirl are from the Stitched Stars dies and have been cut out using a Gold Foil Sheet that had been backed with Adhesive Sheet. The Adhesive Sheet made adhering the swirl to the card front exceptionally easy. The stars are from the stars in the swirl.

The sentiment on the inside of the card is from the Pure Gumption stamp set and has been stamped in Tuxedo Black Memento ink onto Basic White cardstock.

The Gold Foil stars are from the Star Swirl.

A Crushed Curry panel was adhered onto the back of the Basic White cardstock panel, followed by a Blackberry Bliss cardstock panel and then adhered onto the inside of the card.
