A Sweet Little Jungle Party: First Birthday Shaker Card

Some cards are just too cute not to share — even when every single product I used to make it has since been retired! This one falls squarely into that category, so today's post is less "here's what you need to make this" and more "let's just admire this little jungle party together."

The Design

This card is built around an adorable trio of party animals: a shy koala in a polka-dot party hat, a toucan sporting a jaunty green polka-dot hat of his own, and a cheerful lion holding a bunch of balloons. Each critter sits inside a scalloped circle window, which gives the whole design a fun "peek-a-boo" feel — like each animal is popping in to wish the birthday kid well.

Both the koala and the toucan hats are topped with a little pom-pom (red for the koala, peachy-orange for the toucan), adding a soft, tactile touch that photos just can't fully capture. Scattered gold sequins finish off the confetti-party vibe.

The Star of the Show: A Shaker "1"

The real showstopper on this card is the big Daffodil Delight "1" in the bottom corner — and it's not just printed or die-cut, it's a shaker! Inside that number is a little window filled with loose sequins and confetti that shift and shimmer every time the card moves. It's such a fun surprise for a first birthday card, and it turns a simple number into an interactive element the birthday parent (or eventually, the birthday kid) can shake and enjoy.

Happy Birthday, Inside and Out

The front features a hand-stamped "Happy Birthday" sentiment in Basic Black ink, while the inside continues the celebration with "Wishing you the happiest birthday" stamped in a cheerful Daffodil Delight, paired with a solo koala, fussy cut from the retired Birthday Bonanza Designer Series Paper, holding his own bunch of balloons. Even the envelope gets in on the fun, with a fussy-cut toucan carrying balloons across the front flap.

A Note on Supplies

I know some of you will ask about the specific stamps, dies, and papers used here — unfortunately, every product in this project has been retired. So consider this post purely a "cute card for cute card's sake" share! Sometimes it's worth posting anyway, just to spread a little crafty joy (and maybe spark ideas for your own stash of retired goodies).

A Berry Beautiful Anniversary Card

Hello, friends!

Windows are open, the light is pouring in, and I'm in the mood for florals — so today's card leans all the way into that with the gorgeous Berry Botanical Vellum Specialty Designer Series Paper. If you haven't worked with this paper yet, you are in for a treat. The vellum florals have a soft, translucent quality that makes them look almost hand-painted once they're fussy cut and layered, and I thought it was the perfect fit for celebrating a couple's blossoming years together.

Getting the Look

I started with a soft lavender grid pattern from the Designer Series Paper collection as my base — it's subtle enough to let the focal elements shine without competing with them.

For the star of the show, I fussy cut individual blooms and berries right out of the Berry Botanical Vellum paper — golden berry clusters, blue florals, and rich red and plum blossoms. I layered them onto an angled label shape from the Classic Labels Mix & Match Ephemera Pack, tucking in a few leaves underneath to ground the arrangement. Because the paper is vellum, everything has this beautiful soft, see-through quality that catches the light differently than cardstock ever could — it almost looks hand-painted once it's all layered together.

The Sentiment

The "Happy Anniversary" sentiment comes from the Phrases and Frames stamp set — such a versatile set to have on hand! I heat embossed it in gold embossing powder and tucked it right in among the florals so it reads as part of the bouquet rather than sitting separately on top. That warm gold script gives the whole design a little extra shimmer and elegance. Inside, I kept the coordinating sentiment simple, stamped in Fresh Freesia ink to echo the colors on the front for a cohesive finish from cover to inside.

The Finishing Touches

To add a bit of sparkle and dimension, I scattered several Pretty in Pink 2024–2026 In-Color Flat Pearls across the design — a few nestled right into the floral cluster, and several more floating across the grid background for movement and balance.

The combination of the vellum florals, the angled label frame, and the gold-embossed "Happy Anniversary" sentiment gives this card a soft, romantic, garden-gathered feel — perfect for celebrating a couple's special day!

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I'd love to know — what's your favorite way to use vellum paper in your projects? Drop a comment below and let me know!

A Sweet "1" Shaped Card for a First Birthday

There's something extra special about making a card for a baby's first birthday! This card was inspired by Anila Dikay.

The Shape

Instead of a traditional rectangle, the card is cut into the shape of a number "1" — free-hand, no die involved! It took a little planning to make sure the proportions worked out and that everything would still open and close properly, but I love how the fold reveals the sentiment inside as a fun surprise.

The Elephant

For the star of the show, I pulled out the retired Elephant Parade stamp and die set. This sweet little elephant was stamped in Smoky Slate ink and then colored in with Barely Blush and Smoky Slate Stampin' Blends for soft, subtle shading. There's something so charming about a baby elephant holding a bunch of balloons — it felt like the perfect fit for a first birthday theme.

Balloons and Banner

The cheerful cluster of balloons and the pennant banner across the top came together using the Meant For You Mix and Match Ephemera. I love how much color and dimension these little die-cut pieces add without a lot of extra work — they were perfect for filling out the top of the "1" and giving the card that party feel.

The Sentiment

On the front, "Happy 1st Birthday" was stamped using the retired Wild Bunch stamp set. Tucked inside the card is a second sentiment, stamped in cheerful Daffodil Delight ink from the retired Happiest Day stamp set — a little golden surprise waiting for whoever opens it.

Finishing Touches

To add just a bit of sparkle, I scattered a few Sunset Sparkle Sequins around the balloons and near the sentiment. They catch the light beautifully and add just the right amount of festive shine without overpowering the softer color palette.

Final Thoughts

This card was such a joy to put together, from the free-hand cutting of the number shape to layering in all the little details. It's proof that sometimes the best projects come from being inspired by another crafter's creativity and then making it your own. If you get a chance to try a shaped card like this, I highly recommend it — it's a fun challenge and makes for such a memorable keepsake for a first birthday!
