Christmas in July Blog Hop - A Golden Poinsettia Christmas Card

Welcome to the Team Stamp It Groups Christmas in July Blog Hop!

Whether you hopped onto my blog from one of my teammates or started with my blog, I'm awfully glad you "hopped" by.

Hello, friends! Christmas in July is in full swing here, and I couldn't wait to share this card with you. There is something about deep red poinsettias paired with gold foil that just says "Christmas" to me, and this card combines two of my favorite new products to create exactly that look — rich, elegant, and glowing with gold.

The Design

I started with a Basic White card base, layered with Gold Foil cardstock, and topped with another panel of Basic White. That little peek of gold around the edges adds so much richness without overwhelming the card.

For the background, I used the Botanical Glow Hot Foil Dies with the new Stampin' Hot Foil System and Gold Foil to create that gorgeous branch of gold leaves sweeping across the panel. This was my first time really putting the Hot Foil System through its paces on a project like this, and I'm in love with how crisp and shiny the foiled lines turned out. It gives the whole card a shimmer that photos honestly don't do justice to.

The star of the show, of course, is the Pretty Poinsettia stamp and die set. The Pretty Poinsettia dies are an Impressions die, which means they emboss and cut at the same time, giving your projects instant detail and dimension in one step. Real Red cardstock was used to make the flowers and Old Olive cardstock was used to make the leaf. I shaped each flower petal by curling the tips slightly before adding them to the card. That small step makes such a big difference — it gives the flowers a soft, natural dimension instead of looking flat, almost like the petals are just beginning to unfurl.

TIP: Use the Impressions Plate when running Impressions dies through the Stampin' Cut and Emboss machine to add even more detail and dimension to the flowers!

For the poinsettia centers, I used an Iridescent Pearl Basic Jewel and colored it with a Golden Glow Shimmer Brush so it would pick up that same warm gold tone as the rest of the card, then tucked it against Gold Foil cardstock flower centers for extra sparkle.

The sentiment was the easy, satisfying part. I stamped "Merry Christmas" from the Stitched Stocking stamp set in VersaMark ink, then heat embossed it with WOW Metallic Gold embossing powder for that buttery smooth gold finish. I backed the Basic White sentiment label with Gold Foil cardstock so it would tie in seamlessly with the rest of the design.

Inside the Card

I kept the inside simple but still special. The sentiment was stamped with the Stitched Stocking sentiment in gold embossing, and I added a few tiny poinsettia from the Pretty Poinsettia stamp set along with Rhinestone Basic Jewels for a little extra sparkle when the card is opened.

Why I Love This Card

This one is proof that you don't need a lot of colors to make a card feel luxurious — sometimes red, white, and gold really is all you need. The combination of hot foil, heat embossing, and dimensional die-cut flowers gives this card so much texture, and it photographs beautifully next to a Christmas tree (as you can see!).
