Enjoy the Magic of the Season – Christmas Mice Card 1 of 4

Hello, and welcome back to Just Dreamin' Stamps! Today's card is one of a four-card series, and it may be my favorite so far. Who can resist a kitchen full of busy little mice getting ready for Christmas?

The Front: A Cookie Jar Caper

On the front, a pair of cheeky mice are raiding the cookie jar. One peeks over the rim while the other climbs a tiny ladder to reach the goodies. I fussy cut the jar and lid from the A Little Christmas Designer Series Paper, including the gingerbread trees, the candy canes and the deep red bow.

Behind the jar is a snowy window, built in three layers:

  1. The scenery: I cut a piece of Alpine Winter Designer Series Paper into an arch shape for the snowy pine trees outside.
  2. The glass: Next, I fussy cut a Window Sheet into the same arch shape and laid it over the scenery. It gives the look of real glass.
  3. The frame: Finally, I cut the "wooden" window frame from another piece of Alpine Winter DSP using the Christmas Mice Dies, and placed it on top.

The glass layer adds just enough shine to make it feel like you're looking out at the snow. The background also uses the A Little Christmas DSP's cozy striped knit pattern, which makes the whole scene feel warm and snug.

The sentiment, "Enjoy the magic of the season," comes from the Magical Christmas Hot Foil Dies. The Red Foil gives it a crisp, polished finish that stands out against the busy background. The little candy canes are also from the Magical Christmas Hot Foil Dies and the stars are from the Christmas Epoxy Shapes.

The Inside: A Christmas Kitchen Surprise

Open the card and you step right into the kitchen! The A Little Christmas Designer Series Paper sets the scene with cabinets, a stove, a kettle, and an Advent calendar counting down to the 24th. I layered the Christmas Mice Dies pieces on top so the scene really comes to life:

  • Mama mouse stirs a bowl of cookie dough at the table
  • A little one peeks over the edge to see what's cooking
  • One mouse carries a basket of treats
  • Another puts the finishing touches on a gingerbread house

At the bottom, a wood-grain "floor" panel holds an oval candy cane "rug" from the A Little Christmas DSP and one of the Scalloped Wishes dies. The "Merry Christmas" sentiment was foiled with Red Foil using the Magical Christmas Hot Foil Dies. Tiny gingerbread men and cookie trees, fussy-cut from the A Little Christmas DSP, are scattered around to finish the bakery feel.

Why I Love This Card

This card tells a little story from front to back. It's great for anyone who loves holiday baking, and it would make a sweet card to tuck into a plate of Christmas cookies. The Christmas Mice Dies are so versatile that I'll be using them in every card in this series, so be sure to come back for the next one!

A Masculine Birthday Card with Cattails and Peaceful Pine

Not every birthday card needs to be bright, floral, or covered in glitter — and this one proves it. This design comes straight from our last Team meeting, where Kimberley, one of my downline, taught us how to make it. She wanted to create something with a little more weight and structure for the guys on our card list, so I pulled out the Valley in Bloom Designer Series Paper and let its soft plaids and geometric prints set the tone for a clean, layered, masculine design.

Building the Background

I started with a panel of the plaid pattern from Valley in Bloom, matted it onto a strip of Peaceful Pine cardstock, and layered it over a Basic White base card. The muted, hazy plaid gives just enough texture without pulling focus from the focal image — exactly the kind of understated backdrop a masculine card calls for.

To add a second layer of interest, I cut a panel from the coordinating diamond-and-fleur print in the same Valley in Bloom collection, matted it onto Peaceful Pine cardstock again, and popped it up on the right side of the card front. The repetition of the same green cardstock mat ties both papers together and keeps the color story cohesive.

The Cattails

The star of this card is the cattail image from the Scalloped Wishes stamp set, stamped in Peaceful Pine ink onto a Basic White panel. There's something about cattails that just reads "masculine" and "outdoorsy" — they work beautifully for nature lovers, fishermen, or anyone who'd rather get a card that looks like it belongs near a lake than one covered in bows.

To dress up the edges of that cattail panel without adding anything too delicate or fussy, I used the Rotary Perforating tip, one of the interchangeable tips for the Take a Pick Tool, to perforate a line just inside the border. It's a small detail, but it adds a nice bit of handmade texture and a subtle stitched-paper look along the edge.

Three 2026–2028 In-Color Peaceful Pine Dots sit across the top of the cattail panel for a simple pop of shine and color — just enough embellishment to finish the design without overpowering the natural, earthy feel of the rest of the card.

The Sentiment

For the "Happy Birthday" label on the front, I stamped the sentiment from the Loveliest Tree stamp set onto a Peaceful Pine cardstock label using Peaceful Pine ink — a nice tone-on-tone effect that keeps things subtle and sophisticated.

Inside, I stamped a coordinating sentiment from the Framed All Around stamp set in Peaceful Pine ink, along with another set of cattails stamped in a softer application, using the stamp off technique, of the same ink for continuity from front to back.

Final Thoughts

This card came together as a great reminder that masculine cards don't need to be complicated — a strong color palette, a nature-inspired stamp, and a few well-placed textural details go a long way. The combination of Valley in Bloom Designer Series Paper with Peaceful Pine ink gave this card a calm, outdoorsy feel that I think will be perfect for the next birthday on my list.
